Beaches & Piers
Capture a timeless serenity—where the rhythm of the waves meets the steadfast strength of weathered wood. The shoreline glows with natural light, inviting viewers into a space of calm reflection, while the pier stretches outward like a bridge between land and sea, symbolizing both connection and departure. Together, they evoke a sense of quiet wonder, blending the raw beauty of nature with the enduring presence of human craftsmanship.
Many of my pier images include different perspectives, which work well for expanding the theme in one space or in different spaces.

As the first rays of the sun began to paint the sky with shades of pink and orange, I made my way to Carolina Beach Pier with my camera in hand and my wife in tow. I had been waiting for this moment for weeks, eager to capture the beauty of the sunrise over the ocean.
As I set up my camera and tripod, I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace and excitement. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore and the salty scent of the sea filled my senses, and I knew that this was going to be a special moment.
As the sun began to rise higher in the sky, I snapped photo after photo, capturing the vibrant colors of the sunrise as they danced across the water. The sky changed from shades of pink and orange to a brilliant blue, and I knew that I had captured something truly magical.
As I packed up my camera and tripod, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such a stunning sunrise.
And as I walked away from Carolina Beach Pier, I knew that the memories and photos I had captured would stay with me forever.
Now, when I look at this print on my wall, I reflect on that moment.

The sky was a muted gray as Lori and I arrived at Cherry Grove Fishing Pier, rain tapping lightly on my camera bag. The pier stretched, ghostly and quiet, framed by a misty horizon where the sea and sky blurred together. Lori and I knew this was not the typical postcard-perfect weather that people seek for beach photography, but those were the cards we were dealt today. The rain had transformed the scene, no dramatic color transpired.
Many artists would walk away, but the challenge to create a unique perspective motivated my stay.
Our perspective is reality, weather is constant, and the world never sleeps, waves continued rolling in, their crests capped with white as they crashed against the pier’s supports, in the distance another, barely visible through the mist. The rain brought serenity to the place, a contrast to its usual sunny bustle.
I love what I do. I truly feel blessed!

Lori and I arrived in Southport and embraced the cool breeze of the Cape Fear River as it swept through the air. We briefly explored the quaint town and checked into our hotel for a short stay. I came here to look for isolated scenes to create some art with my camera.
There was something timeless about Southport. We strolled down Moore Street, the heart of the historic district, where the old town church steeples rose high above the rooftops. The peacefulness of it all was a stark contrast to the city's bustling life.
I was drawn to the edge of the water, the docks stretched out before me, old boats gently rocking in the tide, their paint chipped and fading from years of use. I noticed a group of pillars battered by the weather; I knew this would be my focus (pun intended) for an early sunrise.
We arrived early to take in the scene; I always enjoy the view before I take out the camera. Finding the best compositions, I set up my tripod and waited. Timing is everything; good or great can be separated by seconds or several minutes.
I couldn’t help but feel that I had found something rare in Southport—something that can’t be rushed, something minimalistic yet felt.
I enjoyed our short stay.
