Waterfalls
I am drawn to the dynamic relationships within nature—the way water flows over rocks, the gentle rustle of leaves, and the interplay of shadows and light. These elements inspire me to create compositions that evoke a sense of calm and contemplation. My influences range from the romantic landscapes of the past to contemporary environmental art, all of which shape my perspective on the importance of preserving these serene spaces.
I ventured on this trip alone to Tory Falls, located in Hanging Rock State Park. The falls feature 100 feet of cascading water tumbling down sheer cliffs, enveloping itself in mist and mystery.
Drawn by the promise of capturing its elusive beauty, I began the short hike to the falls. With each step, the trail pulled me further away from civilization. The rhythm of the forest—the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, and the distant rush of water—grew louder with each passing minute, easing my mind and sparking my curiosity.
When the trail reached a crossroad, marked with signs for “Tory’s Cave” and “Tory Falls,” I chose to visit the falls first. Having yet to encounter any other visitors, I longed for a secluded, empty canvas.
At last, I reached the clearing where Tory Falls revealed itself. It was a breathtaking sight—a veil of mist cascading from towering cliffs, surrounded by vibrant greenery and dappled sunlight. I searched for a pathway down to the base of the falls, but the descent was a sheer drop, so I had to find the best compositions from above.
I spent a couple of hours capturing the timeless beauty of Tory Falls. I used three different lenses and experimented with various angles and compositions. Although it was challenging to create an image that matched what I felt, I managed to produce one that I liked.

Stone Mountain Falls in North Carolina is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are part of the larger Appalachian Mountain range.
My drive to capture the beauty of Stone Mountain Falls through my camera was a relaxing experience. Each trip is met with curiosity and anticipation; it never gets old.
The trail was wide and well-maintained, and interestingly, it was very quiet apart from the sound of the wind. There is a series of stairs that lead down to the base of the falls, and during the descent, I couldn’t help but think about the uphill return—it would be tough.
Finally, the falls came into view, and it was a magnificent sight to behold. The water cascaded down the rock cliff in a powerful display, its roar echoing through my senses. Sunlight filtered through the canopy above, casting dappled shadows on the moss-covered rocks below.
With a sense of awe, I carefully selected various vantage points to capture the falls in all their splendor. I adjusted my camera settings, striving to convey the grandeur and power of nature in every frame. I found myself wading in the collection pools, trying to capture the essence of the falls from every angle. I had to wipe the front of my lens occasionally as the mist distorted my view; however, the cool mist felt wonderful and enhanced the experience. I love this!
It was an amazing experience! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the falls, though I was correct about the tough return to the trailhead. The stairs were challenging, and carrying 30 pounds of gear didn't help!

High Shoals Falls is a stunning waterfall located in the eastern part of Pisgah National Forest, near the town of High Shoals in Burke County, North Carolina. This popular destination attracts hikers and nature enthusiasts alike. The trail leading to the falls offers scenic views and allows visitors to immerse themselves in the area's natural beauty.
The waterfall boasts a total drop of approximately 80 feet (24 meters) and features multiple tiers, creating a dramatic and picturesque effect. As I approached the main falls, I found myself captivated by the surrounding beauty. I could easily spend an entire week photographing the area and still not capture all its splendor.
This location is undoubtedly the most impressive I've encountered so far, and I feel humbled as I continue to create biophilic art, thanks to the wonders of North Carolina.

The air was thick with anticipation as dark clouds gathered in the distance. I stood at the edge of the river, ready to capture the majestic Lower Carter Falls, a hidden gem nestled in Elkin County, NC.
The falls cascaded down, with water plummeting into several pools below, creating mesmerizing views. I struggled to keep my lens clean as occasional raindrops fell, adding an element of drama and reminding me that my time was limited.
I hurried to set up my equipment as the first droplets began to fall, pitter-pattering on the foliage around me. I felt pressured to quickly adjust my composition and camera settings, ensuring I could capture the falls in all their glory despite the approaching storm. The soft rumble of thunder echoed through the valley, creating an eerie soundtrack for my photographic adventure.
Although the rain was sporadic, I continued to capture the falls, occasionally wiping raindrops off my lens to maintain clarity. Despite the challenging conditions, my excitement and passion fueled my desire to capture the perfect image. Finally, I felt content.
My wife helped me store my equipment before we started our trek back to the car, and just then, the sky opened up! The rain poured heavily, and the thunder intensified the moment. Navigating the slick trail to the car was tricky, but we managed to make it back, soaked but relieved.
We had intended to hike to the upper falls to capture the main event, but the storm persuaded us otherwise. As we began our drive home, we faced near-zero visibility at times.
Thankfully, we made it home safely, and I look forward to returning to Carter Falls to capture more images!

This past weekend, I decided to visit Hanging Rock State Park, located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. I was excited to photograph several waterfalls, with a particular focus on the Lower Cascades for this trip.
The hike to the Lower Cascades was relatively easy compared to the more challenging hikes to Window and Hidden Falls. The trail wound through dense forests, and I kept an eye on the lighting, worried that I might miss the golden hour and have to compete with others for the view.
When we arrived, the golden hour bathed the landscape in warm hues. I was truly impressed by the 35-foot drop of the falls and the beautiful pool at the base—it was amazing! Additionally, my wife and I were thrilled to enjoy almost an hour of uninterrupted time to capture the falls from various perspectives since we were the only ones there.
We both agreed that the Lower Cascades quickly became our favorite spot at Hanging Rock. I hope you enjoyed these images!

I’m amazed by the abundance of beautiful landscape opportunities in my local area. Cedar Falls in Asheboro, North Carolina, is no exception. A short drive from my home in Seven Lakes led me to this gem, which is easily accessible. Initially, I wasn't overly excited about the trip, but that changed as soon as I caught my first glimpse of the falls. The wide-open, breathtaking landscape filled me with anticipation.
Before unpacking my gear, I walked down to the river’s edge and noticed how shallow it was. I returned to my car to grab my hip waders and camera gear backpack. I then made my way to the riverbank and started the trek upstream to the falls. It took me a little while to get comfortable walking in the water, but I made good progress.
Being in the water offered a unique perspective, and the anticipation of capturing the elusive beauty of Cedar Falls fueled my creative spirit. The waterfall cascaded gracefully down a rocky precipice, its crystalline waters sparkling in the radiant sunlight. Moss-covered boulders framed the scene, adding an ethereal touch to the landscape.
I was overwhelmed by the breathtaking sight and inspired by the sheer number of “stories” I could tell through my camera. This quickly became one of my favorite locations. I experimented with various angles, capturing the falls from multiple perspectives, each photo reflecting nature's artistry in a profound way.
Lost in the rhythm of my exploration, I lost track of time. Eventually, I began my trek downstream, reluctantly bidding farewell to the mesmerizing beauty of Cedar Falls that had captivated me.
I hope the images I captured resonate with you as they did with me. Becoming a successful photographer is a dream for many, and I take pride in knowing my work is displayed in homes and businesses. I pursue this dream part-time, and much of my motivation and inspiration comes from your feedback and the acknowledgment of the images that interest you. I am determined to continue my journey toward becoming a full-time landscape artist, creating beautiful images that bring joy to people's lives.

Scenic Vista - Troy, NC 0111
Scenic Vista - Troy, NC 0111
The Scenic Vista in Troy, NC, is a popular hiking area known for its stunning views of the surrounding countryside. However, the area's history goes beyond just being a beautiful place for a walk. Scenic Vista is located less than a mile from Barnes Creek, which received hundreds of likes in a previous post.
This area has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s, including significant events from the Civil War and the Great Depression. The breathtaking views from the Vista, combined with the soothing sound of flowing water, create a truly mesmerizing atmosphere. I highly recommend bringing a hammock to relax and fully enjoy the experience. The terrain can be a bit rough as you descend from the main overlook, but the rewards of the short walk make it well worth the effort.
My wife and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to photograph Scenic Vista. Being a successful photographer is a dream for many, and I take pride in knowing that my work is displayed in numerous homes and businesses. I am currently living part of that dream, as much of my motivation and inspiration come from your feedback and your interest in the images I create. I am determined to continue my quest to become a full-time photographer and to produce beautiful images that bring joy to people's lives.

Barnes Creek Falls is a hidden gem in Montgomery County, Troy, NC, with trails on both sides of the creek for varied viewpoints.
After a quick Google search, I was curious to check it out. Upon arrival, I explored the area for interesting perspectives and found a great spot away from the main falls. I carefully navigated the slick rocks to set up my camera and captured some beautiful images, including one of my favorites—simple, elegant, and intimate.
In my excitement to leave, I slipped on a wet rock and fell face-first, but thankfully, I only cracked my lens hood and bruised my pride. It could have been worse!
